Saturnae: Orbital Ice Cream (2020-2022)
Saturnae: Orbital Ice Cream is a campy introspective live streaming series that incorporates interviews with experts from various fields in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), with fantasy story lines of intrepid Ice Cream Ambassadors - Blizzle and NAE.
Produced and written in collaboration with JaNae Contag, Ryan Black was the Technical Director, Lighting Designer, Video Switcher and Mixing Engineer. Orbital Ice Cream is educational, humorous satire, and features both improvisation and original music while probing scientific research including sociology, psychology, philosophy, and cultural studies,
Black and Contag equipped their artist studio as a live streaming set, with 7 cameras, green screen sets for minature and full people, and incorporated handmade arts & crafts scenes, embracing modern technology and contrasting it with the DIY aesthetic of early sci-fi films.
